Looking for private tours in Sydney where you’re not one of 50 people on a coach? At Rocky Road Tours and Travels, every tour is private: just your group, your own driver-guide, and a day built around what you want to see.
We’re a family-owned, owner-operated tour company based in Western Sydney. When you book, you deal directly with the people who run the tour. I’m Rocky (David Badato), and you’ll be guided by me or by Dalia, the two names you’ll see again and again in our reviews.
What every Rocky Road private tour includes:
- Door-to-door pickup and drop-off from your hotel, Airbnb or home anywhere in Greater Sydney
- Your own clean, comfortable private vehicle, sized for your group (we regularly host families of 10)
- A local driver-guide who adapts the day to weather, energy levels and interests
- Insta360 photos and video of your day, so you’re in the pictures too
- Transparent, itemised pricing: entry fees, tolls and parking are listed in your quote, not added later
Guests know us for punctuality, flexibility on rainy days and plenty of Filipino warmth (you’ll see “Kuya Rocky” in a lot of our reviews). Read 140+ reviews on Google and TripAdvisor.
Our private Sydney day tours
Six signature tours, each fully customisable. Swap a stop, add an hour, or ask us to build a day from scratch.
Private Blue Mountains tour from Sydney
The Blue Mountains is the most popular day trip from Sydney, about two hours west by road and a World Heritage Area. Our Private Blue Mountains All-Inclusive Tour covers the Three Sisters at Echo Point, rides at Scenic World (including the world’s steepest passenger railway), waterfalls and village stops in Leura or Katoomba. Add Featherdale Wildlife Park to hand-feed kangaroos on the way.
Why private works here: we’re based in Western Sydney, so we know the quiet lookouts and how to dodge the coach crowds. If cloud rolls in, we change the order of the day to chase the clear spells. Read why the Blue Mountains are still incredible, rain or shine.
Sydney city and Bondi tour
First time in Sydney? Our Private Sydney City & Bondi Tour covers the Opera House, Harbour Bridge, Mrs Macquarie’s Chair and The Rocks, then heads east to Bondi Beach. You set the pace: a long coffee in The Rocks or extra time on the sand. More in First Stops Every Visitor Should Make in Sydney.
Hunter Valley wine tour from Sydney
Australia’s oldest wine region, about 2.5 hours north, with 150+ cellar doors. Our Private Hunter Valley Wine Getaway favours three unhurried tastings over six rushed ones, with time for cheese, chocolate or a long lunch. You taste; we drive. Background in A Taste of the Hunter Valley.
Port Stephens day trip from Sydney
Wild dolphins in Nelson Bay and the Southern Hemisphere’s largest moving sand dunes at Stockton Beach. Our Private Port Stephens All-Inclusive Tour is a big, fun day out for families. Details in Dolphins, Dunes and Pristine Beaches.
Canberra day trip from Sydney
Australia’s purpose-built capital, about three hours south-west. Our Private Canberra Historical Tour includes Parliament House, the Australian War Memorial and the national monuments, with the story of why the city exists at all. Read A Day Trip to Canberra.
South Coast, Kiama and Southern Highlands day tour
Bald Hill lookout, the Sea Cliff Bridge, Wollongong’s lighthouse, the Kiama Blowhole and Fitzroy Falls, all in one scenic loop. Book the Private South Coast & Southern Highlands Tour or read Sea Cliffs, Blowholes and Waterfalls.
Custom private tours
Want Featherdale in the morning and Bondi by sunset? A shopping stop, a specific restaurant, or a multi-day trip down the coast? Tell us, and we’ll build it and quote it with every cost itemised.
Private vs small-group vs coach tours in Sydney
A private tour costs more per booking than a coach seat, but for families and groups of four or more the per-person gap narrows fast, and you get the whole day on your terms.

|---|---|---|---|
| Who’s in the vehicle | Only your group | Up to about 20 strangers | 40–60 strangers |

Sydney shore excursions for cruise passengers
Sydney cruise ships berth at the Overseas Passenger Terminal at Circular Quay or at White Bay in Rozelle. Most lines want you back on board at least two hours before departure, and White Bay adds 30–45 minutes each way to the city. Always confirm your own all-aboard time.
At White Bay, shared maxi taxis have been reported charging each couple a flat per-head rate instead of splitting the metered fare. A pre-booked private pickup avoids that completely. We meet you at the terminal, fit the right tour to your hours ashore, and have you back with time to spare. Planning tips in Cruise Excursions in Sydney.
| Hours ashore | What fits |
|---|---|
| 4–6 | Opera House, Harbour Bridge lookouts, The Rocks |
| 6–8 | City highlights plus Bondi |
| 8+ | Blue Mountains or Hunter Valley, with a safe buffer |
Airport transfers and airport-to-tour days
We collect from Sydney Kingsford Smith and, from 25 October 2026, Western Sydney International. Many guests start with a tour straight from the airport, especially the Blue Mountains, which is closer to WSI than the CBD is. See our full guide to Sydney airport transfers in 2026. Best time to book a private tour in Sydney
October and early March are the sweet spots: warm days, fewer crowds than summer, and clear mountain views. But every season has a tour that shines.
| Season | What it’s like | Tour we’d pick |
|---|---|---|
| Spring (Sep–Nov) | Mild, wildflowers, jacarandas in late October | Blue Mountains, Hunter Valley |
| Summer (Dec–Feb) | Hot, busiest, school holidays | Bondi and the coast early; Port Stephens |
| Autumn (Mar–May) | Settled weather, autumn colour in the mountains | Blue Mountains, Southern Highlands |
| Winter (Jun–Aug) | Cool, cheapest accommodation, Vivid Sydney (late May–June) | Canberra, Hunter Valley, whale season on the coast |
Local planning tips:
- Book early for Dec–Feb and Vivid. Private tours have limited dates because we only run our own vehicles.
- Pack layers. The Blue Mountains are often several degrees cooler than the city. Bring a light jacket even in summer.
- Sunscreen, always. The Australian sun burns fast, even on cloudy winter days.
- Tell us about mobility needs. We plan stops, walking distances and pace around everyone in your group, from babies to grandparents.
